INSTALLATIONS

KHas University, Istanbul, 2015 - 2020

These series of installations are built in cooperation with Khas University arhitecture department. I designed these structures with students on site, coordinated the process and participated in the building phase.

During the construction of these installations, students get engaged with their whole bodies, stretching the tensile ropes with full strength. This creates a unique social situation, where a collective work is required and where the forces flow from one body to another.

Throughout these workshops, a predetermined form is not sought. It is rather a collaborative improvisation that determines the outcome, where many hands work together to sculpt the tension and give it a final form through its performative character.

Material palette consists of rope, tape, net and nylon, which are elastic, cheap, industrial and easy to find. These are weaved together creating funicular geometries. Stretched surfaces respond to gravity and define a new elastic ground for the user.
